Bueno, pues después de todas las expectativas sobre el iPhone 4, finalmente tengo uno en las manos. ¡Qué suertuda!
Considerando que es el último lanzamiento de Apple y que la presentación del mismo durante el WWDC 2010 en San Francisco dejó a todos con la boca abierta, el nuevo iPhone ha creado tanto revuelo que el mismo día en que se abrieron las pre-órdenes se acabó todo el inventario (más de 600,000 iPhones en tan sólo unas horas). Los sitios de AT&T y Apple tuvieron todo tipo de errores ya que los servidores de AT&T que verifican la elegibilidad para actualizar el teléfono se vieron sobrecargados durante el proceso. Miles y miles de personas intentando colocar la órden simplemente tronaron el sistema.
Adicionalmente han habido muchos problemas después del caos del 15 de Junio. Órdenes canceladas, precios erróneos, gente con "Family Plans" que no pudieron concretar el proceso, retrasos de mensajería que obligaron a Apple (en contra de sus procedimientos normales) a entregar los teléfonos uno e incluso dos días antes del lanzamiento oficial (que es mañana 24 de Junio). De hecho hay algunos usuarios que reportan que la pantalla de su teléfono llegó defectuosa y tendrán que esperar días, si no es que semanas, para poder cambiarlo por uno nuevo y sin defectos de fábrica.
Afortunadamente para mi, logré pasar el proceso de pre-orden el día 15 y aunque no recibí confirmación por correo electrónico de AT&T sino hasta dos días después, finalmente mi teléfono llegó un día antes del lanzamiento oficial, sin problemas de pantalla y en este preciso momento está restaurando toda la información, aplicaciones, música, fotos, vídeos y configuración que tenía en mi iPhone 3GS.
Precisamente la facilidad para cambiar de teléfono es una de las cosas que más me gustan de iPhone e iTunes. Simplemente haces un respaldo del teléfono antiguo, conectas el nuevo, eliges ese respaldo y todo queda como antes. Toda la configuración de cuentas de correo electrónico, contraseñas, bookmarks de Safari, mensajes de texto (SMS), en fin, todo queda intacto sin tener que hacer absolutamente nada en el teléfono nuevo. Por supuesto si quieres empezar de cero, también existe esa opción, pero ¿quién quiere dedicar horas a volver a dejar todo como antes? o ¿quién quiere perder información o datos como SMS o bookmarks?
Parece que mi iPhone acaba de terminar de sincronizar toda mi información, así que voy a iniciar el proceso de activación para poder decir adiós a mi iPhone 3GS y hola a mi nuevo, impecable y fantásticamente diseñado iPhone 4.
Paréntesis para dar un tip a los que viven en EUA y quieren actualizar su teléfono, vendiendo el antiguo. Yo he vendido mis teléfonos anteriores a través de Gazelle y siempre he recibido un buen precio por ellos (sé que recibiría mejor precio vendiéndolo en Craigslist, pero prefiero no pasar por la negociación y la tardanza de venderlo al mejor postor). En este caso me darán $200 dólares por mi iPhone 3GS y el iPhone 4 de 16Gb cuesta precisamente eso, así que es una excelente opción. Al final, siempre he pensado que los productos de Apple tienen muy buen valor de reventa.

Bueno, pues ya estuvo. La activación fue un proceso sencillo online en el cual se debe hacer la confirmación de número de teléfono, número de serie del nuevo aparato y los últimos 4 dígitos de mi número de seguridad social, así que mi teléfono nuevo ¡está activado! Acabo de terminar también este vídeo con el "un-boxing", algunas fotos del teléfono y fotos y vídeos tomadas con la nueva cámara de 5 Megapixeles que graba vídeo de alta resolución a 720p.
Si eres un nerd de Apple, como yo, espero que lo disfrutes.

Y seguimos con el tema
El miércoles publiqué un post que se llamaba ¡Ay, cómo detesto la ignorancia! en el que explicaba que después de leer un artículo del Time en Facebook empecé a discutir con varias personas que estaban de acuerdo en que había sido justo que un oficial de la patrulla fronteriza de Estados Unidos le hubiera disparado a un niño de 15 años, que estaba en tierra Mexicana, por arrojarle piedras al oficial. El disparo no fue de atención, fue una sola bala directo en la cabeza que lo mató.
Los comentarios han seguido y a través de toda la discusión han defendido la postura un ex-marine llamado Adam Brown, quien dejó de responder eventualmente y un tal Brian Rushing quien ha dicho en variadas ocasiones, que Estados Unidos es el mejor. Así que pensé que sería bueno abrirle un poco los ojos y responderle de manera objetiva y con fundamento.
El post de Brian decía:
"This country was built on the rule of law, the immigrants you speak of that came to this country, fought for independence, and created the Constitution that led to us being the greatest country on earth. The United States (that you seem to hate) has helped out, liberated, and defended more countries over the past 200+ years than ANY other country in history! What do we ask in return? Obey our laws if you wish to be a citizen whether you were born here or came here from abroad. Is that too much to ask? You rely on our legal system when it benefits your sidde of this argument, but when it doesn't, you whine and cry that it's not fair. Well BOO freakin' HOO! If you don't like it here, go to Mexico. Oh wait, in Mexico they rape and torture illegal immigrants. I guess that's ok in your eyes since you defend Mexico's double standard on immigration. If you'd like to see the Amnesty International report on these abuses, you can google it. Where are your tears and protests when it's a Central American being abused? If it comes to light that facts on the ground are not what was reported and it was an abuse of force, hold the agent accountable. See, that's an example of following the law. It has nothing to do with hate, being a Mexican, or any of the other distractions you post. I do pray for the kids family, though. No parent should have to bury their child."

So let me ask you again: What makes you say you are the best?
Just because you say "The US has helped out, liberated, and defended more countries over the past 200+ years than ANY other country in history!"???
You believe that you had the right to go into those countries. Why? You were not invited! You used the force and declared war to supposedly liberate them, but there were hidden interests. In the war that has been going on for 9 years, the United Nations did not authorize the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan. You make the rules for the entire World? Why? You talk about rules, well follow them. That war has implied a cost of $1,000,000,000,000 dollars (yes, that number is correct) and counting.

Are you okay with paying for that war from your taxes? From the money you have earned working? From the money that is supposed to go to education, infrastructure, employment, health, government services?
Maybe if that money was not spent in the war, they could have trained the border patrol officer better, and this discussion wouldn't be taking place."
Todavía no entiendo quién le ha metido en la cabeza a los gringos que son los mejores, pero quien sea que haya sido, ha hecho muy buen trabajo haciéndoselos creer, tatuárselo, portarlo en la ropa, defenderlo y gritarlo aunque no tengan ni idea de porque lo dicen. Una cosa es ser patriota y amar a tu país, con sus defectos y sus virtudes, sabiendo que tiene defectos, como cualquier otro (ya parece que estoy hablando de relaciones de pareja, pero no, sigo hablando de países), que nos dará alegrías y también tristezas y que habrá cosas por las cuales nos hará sentir orgullosos y otras por las que nos dará vergüenza y otra cosa es sentirte superior sin mirar que hay allá afuera.
De verdad que creo que Estados Unidos es un gran país. Si no, no viviría aquí. Este país tiene muchas cosas positivas, pero la ignorancia de mucha de su gente y esa actitud de "soy superior", simplemente no la soporto. No aguanto su arrogancia, su prepotencia y su orgullo mal entendido. Estoy convencida de que esa actitud es la que ha hecho que el país se haya congelado desde hace años. No saben admitirlo, no saben ver más allá de sus narices y reconocer lo bueno que hay allá afuera. Por supuesto todos los países tienen sus defectos. Algunos son inseguros, a otros les falta desarrollo económico, muchos de ellos (si no es que todos), tienen malos Gobiernos. Simplemente no existe "el mejor". Eso es lo que hay que entender.

¡Ay, cómo detesto la ignorancia!
Estoy inscrita a la página del Time en Facebook. Me gusta la revista física, pero a veces las noticias ya son del pasado en este mundo tan acelerado en el que vivimos. Aunque disfruto sus artículos de opinión y algunos editoriales sobre economía que son bastante interesantes, las noticias del día a día las sigo por Twitter (pueden inscribirse a mi lista de noticias de México, Estados Unidos y el Mundo) y Facebook.
Para los que no lo saben, hoy en la frontera de México con Estados Unidos, un niño de 15 años que andaba en bicicleta con otros chicos de su edad, estando del lado Mexicano, lanzaron unas piedras a un oficial Norte Americano de la patrulla fronteriza que había detenido a un Mexicano que había cruzado ilegalmente. El oficial, sin dudarlo, levantó su pistola y le disparó una sola vez en la cabeza. Lo mató.
El leer el artículo me hizo pensar en cuanta gente matan día a día con la justificación de que "estaban cruzando ilegalmente". Hace unos días mataron a otro Mexicano que vivía en el condado de San Diego desde hace más de 20 años porque lo detuvieron, le pidieron papeles y al no tenerlos, lo golpearon hasta quitarle la vida. Esto es un reflejo claro de lo que está pasando en Arizona. Obviamente, no me chupo el dedo, y sé que desde hace mucho tiempo matan a mis paisanos tratando de cruzar la frontera, la ley de Arizona es sólo una manifestación abierta de la xenofobia que existe en este País. Cuantos documentales no hay sobre el tema. Mexicanos, Centro Americanos y Sudamericanos tratan de cruzar al "otro lado" y no siempre les sale bien.
Yo no justifico la inmigración ilegal, pero creo que la manera en la que tratan a los que lo intentan es inhumana y va en contra de cualquiera de los derechos humanos. Pero el hecho de matar a un adolescente sólo porque estaban arrojando piedras, me parece atroz. ¿En dónde está el límite? ¿Quién responde por este chico y por su familia? Si fuera al revés ¿qué pasaría? Si fuera un niño blanco en la frontera del lado gringo y un oficial Mexicano le hubiera disparado, ¿cuál sería la reacción de Estados Unidos?
Pero la cosa no queda ahí. Aún peor fue mi disgusto al leer las palabras de la gente que publicó sus comentarios. ¡Vaya ignorancia! ¡Vaya déspotas! ¡Vaya arrogantes! Por supuesto, ¿saben qué paso? Que no me aguanté, claro que no. Puse mis comentarios. Ahí van:

You are so immersed in the belief that every immigrant is illegal and that every illegal is Mexican, that you have lost the big picture.
First of all, the US was built by immigrants. You feel proud of saying that you are Irish or English descendant (who, by the way, also came to this country illegally), but when it comes to Mexicans you all are outraged.
Second, in this case, the member of the Border Patrol shot a person, who was not armed, was no threat and was not illegally in the US (which, of course, wouldn't be a reason to shoot him anyway). He was in Mexico. This agent should be presented with criminal charges and condemned for murder in the first degree.
Third, you all believe what your Republican politicians want you to believe. You all have the idea that illegal immigrants are taking your jobs (who is going to work on the fields, factories and restaurants? Are you willing to do it for 5 dollars/hour or less?); that all illegals are criminals (Mexican crime rate is not higher than that of any other race or ethnicity); that all Hispanics are illegal and you can detain them, persecute them and treat them like criminals just because of the color of their skin. The Arizona law is only an example of the increasing xenophobia the country is experimenting. You criticize and disapprove the politics and atrocious acts during Hitler's government, well look at yourselves in the mirror, because you are following the same path.
Open your eyes people, the US is no longer the powerful, unbeatable country it once was. Your worst mistake is to believe that you are owners of the truth and the only ones living in this world; that you have the right to attack and take over other countries if you please to, to supposedly bring on peace at the cost of other people's lives and democracy. And above all, your biggest defect is ignorance. Be open and learn what is out there. Stop believing that you are the best and that you know better. Countries in Europe, Asia and even Latin America are growing at fast paces, you are being left behind. If you continue being so close minded, not learning other languages, visiting other countries and respecting other cultures, you are destined to perish. Change people, change."
La única respuesta fue de un tal Adam Brown. Este fue su comentario:
"Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........lol"
Jajajaja. A lo cual, sólo respondí:
"Adam, I rest my case: you are an ignorant."
Una hora más tarde, Adam "el ignorante" respondió:
"blaa blaa blaa....."
Finalmente, hace unos minutos respondí:
"Adam, I am glad that you don't have anything else to say. You just can't have an intelligent, informed conversation because you are not capable of it. Your reaction just proves what I explained above. You are too full of yourself and you believe that your tiny perspective is the only one that matters. You are a living example of the worst problems this country has: arrogance and ignorance. Good luck in life with that attitude!"
Por un lado me da tristeza que, ante un debate informado, la única respuesta puedan ser monosílabos (si es que a expresiones infantiles se les puede llamar monosílabos). Esto nada más demuestra que la gente no está preparada para compartir puntos de vista y defender su postura con fundamento. Es una pena. Aunque, por otro lado, espero que puedan abrir los ojos ante lo que es inminente: su ignorancia los llevará a tener un retraso sobre el resto del Mundo y eventualmente los países a los que siempre han visto hacia abajo, los dejarán atrás. Ojalá abran los ojos... aunque lo malo no es ser ignorante, sino creer que no lo eres y actuar como si supieras. Eso es aún más peligroso.
Veremos si Adam Brown alias "el ignorante" tiene alguna nueva expresión infantil en su amplio vocabulario.

La única respuesta fue de un tal Adam Brown. Este fue su comentario:

Jajajaja. A lo cual, sólo respondí:
"Adam, I rest my case: you are an ignorant."
Una hora más tarde, Adam "el ignorante" respondió:
"blaa blaa blaa....."
Finalmente, hace unos minutos respondí:
"Adam, I am glad that you don't have anything else to say. You just can't have an intelligent, informed conversation because you are not capable of it. Your reaction just proves what I explained above. You are too full of yourself and you believe that your tiny perspective is the only one that matters. You are a living example of the worst problems this country has: arrogance and ignorance. Good luck in life with that attitude!"
Por un lado me da tristeza que, ante un debate informado, la única respuesta puedan ser monosílabos (si es que a expresiones infantiles se les puede llamar monosílabos). Esto nada más demuestra que la gente no está preparada para compartir puntos de vista y defender su postura con fundamento. Es una pena. Aunque, por otro lado, espero que puedan abrir los ojos ante lo que es inminente: su ignorancia los llevará a tener un retraso sobre el resto del Mundo y eventualmente los países a los que siempre han visto hacia abajo, los dejarán atrás. Ojalá abran los ojos... aunque lo malo no es ser ignorante, sino creer que no lo eres y actuar como si supieras. Eso es aún más peligroso.
Veremos si Adam Brown alias "el ignorante" tiene alguna nueva expresión infantil en su amplio vocabulario.
